VOLLEYBALL

I remember when i was a kid, me, my relatives and friends used to play volleyball in a farm near our place. We set up a net in the middle and make water marking for our outside line. That is the time I learned to play that sport. Here is a brief history of volleyball.

In 1895, William G. Morgan, an instructor at the Young Men's Christian Association in Holyoke, Mass., decided to blend elements of basketball, baseball, tennis, and handball to create a game for his classes of businessmen which would demand less physical contact than basketball. He created the game of Volleyball (at that time called mintonette). Morgan borrowed the net from tennis, and raised it 6 feet 6 inches above the floor, just above the average man's head.

During a demonstration game, someone remarked that the players seemed to be volleying the ball back and forth over the net, and perhaps "VOLLEYBALL" would be a more descriptive name for the sport.

In 1896, July 7th first volleyball game was first played at Springfield College.

Year 1900 the creation and designed of a special ball for the sport.

Volleyball positions in a team are compose of a Outside hitter (also called wing spiker, left side), Right side hitter (wing spiker, right side), Opposite Hitter (attacker), Setter, Middle Blocker (center, middle hitter), Libero, and Defensive Specialist.

How about you? Do you play volleyball?

Basketball

One of my favorite sports is basketball. Basketball is one of the world’s most popular sports. In the Olympics before, USA or the Dream Team are very dominant with this sport because of their high caliber NBA players in their team. But now you can see that it change, the competitions are tight because many countries are good in playing this. That is the reason why NBA teams are picking international players to join their team. Here in Philippines we have a professional league called PBA or Philippines Basketball Association. My favorite team ever since is Purefoods, although they change their name to BMEG I still support them. My favorite player is The Captain Alvin Patrimonio (now retired playing and still in BMEG management as Team Manager) and James Yap, King James or also known as Boy Thunder (Ex-husband of Actress Kris Aquino whose brother is now a President of the Philippines whose mother is a former President Corazon Aquino that died in a colon cancer, that his husband is also dead). Enough of Showbiz Chikas. Let’s talk about Basketball.
