I remember when i was a kid, me, my relatives and friends used to play volleyball in a farm near our place. We set up a net in the middle and make water marking for our outside line. That is the time I learned to play that sport. Here is a brief history of volleyball.
In 1895, William G. Morgan, an instructor at the Young Men's Christian Association in Holyoke, Mass., decided to blend elements of basketball, baseball, tennis, and handball to create a game for his classes of businessmen which would demand less physical contact than basketball. He created the game of Volleyball (at that time called mintonette). Morgan borrowed the net from tennis, and raised it 6 feet 6 inches above the floor, just above the average man's head.
During a demonstration game, someone remarked that the players seemed to be volleying the ball back and forth over the net, and perhaps "VOLLEYBALL" would be a more descriptive name for the sport.
In 1896, July 7th first volleyball game was first played at Springfield College.
Year 1900 the creation and designed of a special ball for the sport.
Volleyball positions in a team are compose of a Outside hitter (also called wing spiker, left side), Right side hitter (wing spiker, right side), Opposite Hitter (attacker), Setter, Middle Blocker (center, middle hitter), Libero, and Defensive Specialist.
How about you? Do you play volleyball?
